You are probably aware of some of the changes that have been made as we attempt to reduce our environmental impact in order to meet the 2050 EU goal of becoming carbon neutral.

So far, over recent years, measures such as: paying fees for plastic bags, increased availability of electronic car charging points and converting from plastic straws to paper and metal alternatives have been put into practice.

Now change is happening on a larger scale.

The European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA) is a coalition that is campaigning for the decarbonisation of freight; with a goal of cutting 30% of emissions from heavy duty vehicles by 2030 and an aspiration to be completely carbon neutral by 2050.

With 6.6 million trucks on EU roads the ECTA points out that unless drastic measures are taken to increase the availability of new, cleaner alternatives to fossil fuels, and increased access to zero emission vehicles, the proposed EU carbon-neutral 2050 goal will not be met and the impact on the environment could be disastrous.

With the amount of road freight expected to double by 2050 the ECTA is attempting to assist the EU with the development of a more sustainable approach to road freight that will aim to curb air pollutants and CO2 emissions.

With change at the forefront of the carbon neutral goal, it is likely that we will begin to see transformations within the freight industry over the next twenty years.
